seems like some timeout issue from the camera's side, (and no keep-alive from VLC) . the GET_PARAMETERS request doesn't even seem to me supportes by the camera:

that's not possible.
if quicktime can read it, you can just import the file into iMovie.
if not, you need to convert it to another format, first.
you can do this with vlc too.. see the advanced output option.

just put the subtitle-file in the same folder as the movie,
and make sure they have a similair names.
vlc will automatically find and load the subtitles.
see if this is enabled in the prefs.
