Re: How to install VLC on Ubuntu 8.10?

Also I believe Ubuntu is *meant* to be updated as it is released, unless you are running LTS.

So if he is running 8.10, he might want to update to Karma before installing more software. It's just a cleaner upgrade path.

Re: Please help, total newbie to linux urgent

Taking a wild guess this is Ubuntu, since it's an Aspire (?) but you didn't even say.

If so however, Ubuntu has excellent forums.

1.0.4 says it is 1.0.2 ?

I have attempted to install 1.0.4 onto Karma K/9.10 several times, both from GetDeb/apturl, and also with dpkg using the vlc-nox_1.0.4-1~getdeb1_amd64.deb package. Each time, vlc --version says this: VLC media player 1.0.2 Goldeneye VLC version 1.0.2 Goldeneye Compiled by buildd@yellow.buildd Compil...

Re: nighlty amd64 build for hardy

Ok I am confused. Why is the first thread in the Linux forum about Hardy? While that distro is technically still supported, it is really, really long in the tooth.

Is there something going on with VLC and Ubuntu LTS?
