How much delay is there on Satellite feeds

I'm looking to stream some satellite tv around a local network, but don't want a big delay between it getting to the dish and viewing on my PC. About how long would the delay be?

Any tips on how to make the delay as small as possible, or for setting up a system like this?

Many thanks

If we can get one made in SVG we can scale it to whatever size. Just an idea.

Hello

Hello again,

If I remember right, there's something about the windows version that's slightly odd . I can't remember exactly, but try editing this bit
:sout='#tra.....
with no equals
:sout '#tra....
or no hash
:sout='tra....
or both (I can't remember exactly)

Hopefully that should work

Hello

I agree about the wiki, that article is really hard to find for some strange reason. There should be no difference between the Windows an Linux versions. VLC will only make it into the right video format though, so the program you use to create the menu and burn it will depend on if it's Windows or ...

Hello

Trim file with --start-time=600 (seconds). There;s also --stop-time

For the DVD, try http://wiki.videolan.org/index.php/How_to_Create_a_DVD

Hello

The SFV is probably a checksum. OGM is a media file. It is probably a video, but ogm does have the ability to include subtitles for that video.

If subtitles are found in a format VLC can understand, it will be available for selection from the video menu.

Hello

Can you still compile with pretty much all the configure options disabled?

Make sure you're using the latest ffmpeg too (for example, even the latest unstable ffmpeg package in debian is not new enough ;-)

Hello

Bittorrent support would be pretty tricky. Bittorrent files download parts of the file from seemingly random places in the file, and not from the start. Assuming you want to start playing from the beginning, that's a problem. Also, these pieces do not match the breaks in video frames, so theres no g...

Do you mean?

Do you mean SWF (Shockwave Flash = the animation, the play button and other gubbins) or FLV (Flash Video = the actual video, which you are often able to sneakily download using UnPlug, KeepVid or Videodownloader)? I doubt if VLC will support SWF in the forseeable future, there are no good open sourc...

Disregard that bit about the http interface - I think that just controls it, and it plays on the server only (?)

Hello

Hi there You san start media playing from a certain time using --start-time on the command line. But, I'm sure there are better solutions (but I don't know then either ;-) As for RTP / RTSP, if I remember the RTP support is "patchy" at best. You might also want to try the web interface, ht...

Hello

I'm not sure how it can get to the end of the file, I reckon it's to do with how linux opens it's files (I think it keeps it in the same state as when it's opened, I know you can delete files which are open and they keep on playing) Anyway, I think you could use this: you can pipe data into vlc. If ...

Hello

You can use samba (which uses SMB, the same thing as Windows Network Neighbourhood). That's probably the easiest soultion to set up (KDE has some good samba support). Butler suggested NFS, which is actually mounting a (shared) hard drive as if it was one of your own (perhaps a bit of overkill in thi...

Hello

You havn't got the GL library (ie you've got a missing dependancy). You should be able to get around this (I hope) by specifying --disable-glx when you run ./configure. Alternatively, you could install the X11 OpenGL (GLX) library.

Hello, You should be able to play files using vlc without KDE/Gnome etc, but I'm not sure if the nice graphical interface will be avaliable. I don't think vlc can play .swf (flash) files On a slightly related note, ffmpeg (which is used by vlc) can convert .flv (flash video) to .avi - though I don't think vlc has this ability. Hello, This 4GB problem sounds like you're saving to a FAT32 format disk (which is standard in WIndows 98 and some others) - if you use a differently formatted drive then you should be able to store more than that (if not, there's a bug somewhere...) ---- If you're still able to access the 4GB file ...
