It hasn't to do with vsync. There are othere options for playing film material without tearing. Vsync is for graphics acceleration! Use Media Player Classic to test this. There are extra options to deactivate / activate video sync. For tearing problem with VLC v.1.0.3 i have found the following fact...

I have the same Problem. I have collected a few facts about that problem (tearing?): - it only occurs with VLC v.1.03, v.1.02 is OK! - it doesn't seem to be OS related; it happens on Win XP SP3 and Win 7 64-bit. - it hasn't to do with VSync! - both, ATI and NVIDIA GFX produces same tearing! - for me...
