Re: VLC keeps crashing whenever I try to play an mkv file

Yeah, I thought I tried that - perhaps I'll try once more.

Re: VLC keeps crashing whenever I try to play an mkv file

The crashes are still happening here.

I went back to 3.0.18 which seems to work fine.

Still on Ventura 13.6.1, updating now to 13.6.3.

I'll report back if it still happens... if I remember to do so...

Re: VLC keeps crashing whenever I try to play an mkv file

Same here.

Came here just to report this.

MacStudio M1 Ultra, Ventura 13.6.1

Thanks for the tip of GOM - I hope it's not spying on me like crazy, but so far it doesn't seem to connect much. Fingers crossed.

I'm afraid this isn't the only explanation and the developers need to aknowledge this. Yes, if that error message appears it is most likely that the machine can't handle it. However, I'm getting those sort of messages and choppy playback while QuickTime plays back the file perfectly fine. Even on a ...

Hmmm... no, it's still not performing the way it should.

Any other performnace improvement hints that I could try besides increasing the cache?

Cheers

of course the above was me... :-( Edit: I increased all the caches in --> Preferences/Input/Access modules to 4 times what it was. It seems to be better now. So, anyone who has these issues this seems to be the solution Maybe you can add this to the FAQ. Or, better yet, maybe the caches could be mad...

Hickups

Every two minutes or so there will be an audio and video dropout of about 1 second but when it comes back it doesn't continue at the spot where it played but at the actual point in time. In other words: the file is played back normally except I don't see or hear it and it skips a second. I'm playing...

Sorry to dig out an old thread, but: I have just bought a Dual G5 2.0 and I'm still getting the hickups. I just watched an mp4 and switched over to the QuickTime Player which played it fine without any hickups, (This was on the Powerbook again with 1 Ghz), but I am getting strange behaviour. Since I...

This makes total sense. However, it doesn't really account for the inconsitency of the described behaviour. We shall see... maybe I can keep a mental log of what was open before when I get the next hickups... :-) My last complaint (about the audio output not working with professional audio interface...

So, I have the feeling that after machine boots I still get the 5 second freeze when launching VLC but not the hickups.

Those seem to be getting worse every time I start VLC.

Maybe that's a hint as to what this could be?

Thanks and cheers

Thanks for the fast reply.

I should have though of that myself... however, it didn't help.

I'm still getting the described behaviour.

Freeze on startup, hickups during play - Mac OS 10.3.9

Hey there, I don't know if this is supposed to be normal, but I don't think so, because VLC behaves without these issues on my girlfriends Powerbook. But here is what happens: Startup: VLC hangs for about 5 seconds seemingly not doing anything. Then playback starts, sometimes with a notification tha...

Sorry about the very late reply! Thank you for helping me on this one. I downloaded that version, however, it does not solve the problem. I have made two screenshots to show what I'm talking about, because it's much faster than trying to explain with words (at least for an imbecile like me) You can ...

Still no solution to this problem,

I'm using the Metric Halo 2882 (this is a professional recording audio interface) but the channels only show up as mono channels in VLC.

They work as they are supposed to in every other application.

Can someone help?

Cheers
