Guess what ? ... Use the CVS version of VLC :)
And with the CVS version you'll have to run ./bootstrap first to obtain the ./configure script.

Your points in 1) should be addressed in 0.7.0-test2 or test3.
Regarding the DVD navigation, we do know that it kinda sucks in VLC ;) and it's one of the area we would like to improve in the next version.

If you are running a recent version of VLC, then use: ./vlc --reset-config
Otherwise a simple "rm ~/.vlc/vlcrc" will do the trick.

Actually VP3 is already supported by ffmpeg so we should be able to decode this if we had an nsv demuxer.

Maybe just remuxing the file to MPEG PS would do the trick.
(Have a look at the "stream output" dialog)

Can you guys first try a newer version ?

If this still doesn't work then I would definitely be interested in small samples of your files.

Hmmm, what exactly was the problem ?
I'm asking because VLC doesn't use the aspi layer on WinNT/2K/XP. It uses it only under Win9x/Me.

The smearing problem in 0.7.0-test2 is a know problem in ffmpeg and was fixed recently so 0.7.0 final will be working fine in that aspect.

It is also said that you have to install quicktime (otherwise the necessary codecs won't be installed).

Where did you read that ??? I don't know much about VLS but I know for sure that VLC does produce MPEG TS streams compliant with the ISO/IEC 13818-1 spec. VLC/VLS are even widely used to stream to settop boxes like the amino ones or the dbox, etc... Now what you might have read is that VLC uses a pr...

AFAIK, only the "alsa" audio output plugin provides an S/PDIF output so first you should make sure your linux kernel has been compiled with the new alsa support. Then check if your vlc was compiled with alsa support as well (vlc -l|grep alsa).

There is a small exception to this :) VLC for win32 can use the dlls installed by quicktime to read QDM2 audio (used in some quicktime movie trailers for instance). But for this to work you also need to copy an additional dll (http://www.videolan.org/pub/testing/win32/qtmlClient.dll) to the VLC dire...

Chapters support in ogm is something very very hacky :( I wanted to implement support for it in our Ogg demuxer but realized that it isn't easy to do cleanly at all. Firstly because the chapters info is stored in one of the elementary streams itself which means we will have to add some more logic to...
