Re: DirectX - Support for hardware acceleration

Well yes... they're both for general purpose code, but taking into consideration that there's a lot of CPU usage on x264 at 1080p (for example) then it would be nice to be able to offload some of that to the GPU, even if it's non video specific stuff.

Re: DirectX - Support for hardware acceleration

Well... actually some of the support could be done via CUDA, ¿no?

I know that OpenCL support will be relatively easy to implement (it'll be in Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard), but I'm not sure that CUDA is that easy.

Could anybody be so kind to enlighten us with some info about it?

Popusi mi kurac. We'd all be happier if we all spoke English, porque sino al final cada uno habla en el idioma que le da la gana và không có ai sẽ hiểu nhau.

And yes, there's a problem with 0.9.8a. By downloading 0.9.8a, the VLC.app that is inside is actually 0.9.8 instead of the 0.9.8a version.

Re: X264 .MKV file on VLC... cannot play, help MAC NOOB!!

I tried to play the video I talked about in the previous post and... it wouldn't play correctly in 0.9.4 and surprisingly it wouldn't play correctly in 0.8.6d version either. It played ok on other videoplayers. Why? I'm confused.

Re: X264 .MKV file on VLC... cannot play, help MAC NOOB!!

Let me get this straight. almost all files with which we have seen this issue have been made with OLD mkvmerge versions. We can play them if we ignore the SeekHead, but that's not really right (you loose chapters, attachments and all that sort of stuff). I have had 0 problems with mkv files created...

Re: X264 .MKV file on VLC... cannot play, help MAC NOOB!!

Just downloaded 0.9.4 and... much better than 0.9.3 handling the mkv files from pre-April mkvmerge. Still not perfect, but much better. I'll keep the 0.8.6b installed too at the same time though, just in case, specially for long videos like movies and so on. Interesting that it does a better job wit...

Re: X264 .MKV file on VLC... cannot play, help MAC NOOB!!

Also, I hate to rock the boat, but just using 0.9.3 and 0.8.6b on the same machine, has anyone noticed that seeking through a file is much, much slower on 0.9.3. My dual-core cpu spikes to 90-110% for about 30 seconds when seeking at any point in a .mkv whereas 0.8.6b handles it instantly - no spik...

Re: X264 .MKV file on VLC... cannot play, help MAC NOOB!!

One option i set up so i can get the video to play back smoothly is to go to VLC's preferences, click on input/codecs, go down to other codecs, then to FFMPEG, click on advanced tab (located at the bottom left) to open more options, go to skip the loop filter for h264, i set it to nonkey, and so fa...

Re: X264 .MKV file on VLC... cannot play, help MAC NOOB!!

Ok, for those of you with the mkv problem. I've got a solution. 1. First uninstall VLC (whatever the version is) with AppCleaner (this software is free and a must-have). 2. Download VLC 0.8.6b from here: http://download.videolan.org/pub/videolan/vlc/0.8.6b/macosx/ 3. Drag the VLC.app (0.8.6b) to the...

Re: X264 .MKV file on VLC... cannot play, help MAC NOOB!!

VLC does not use QuickTime. VLC is an opensource player that uses opensource and Free codecs for everything. Apple is using a proprietary codec and on top of that is probably using some hardware acceleration features of your Graphics card to which VLC has no access (complaints to be filed at the GP...

Re: X264 .MKV file on VLC... cannot play, help MAC NOOB!!

I wanted to ask a small question. I haven't tried 0.8.6 c, d, e, f, g, h or i because I remember that I had the mkv problems with the latest 0.8.6 ones so I just jumped to one I remember that worked ok (probably c works ok too, but I'm not in a mood to try). The thing is. I'm planning on using VLC 0...

Re: X264 .MKV file on VLC... cannot play, help MAC NOOB!!

Same problem here. The problem is usually with big mkv files. If they are HD but short (20-30 minutes) there's no problem. When they're long, like 2 and a half hours long, then the problems occur, specially when there are several audio and subtitle tracks involved. I'm in a new MacBook Pro. Edit: I ...

Re: Help us! Looking for HD material that stutter in VLC

It works ok here (I have skip filter in all h.264 activated, maybe that's helping) but it does consume a fair amount of CPU though (55%-60% in a new MBP):

Re: No video playback of .mkv-files with VLC 0.9.2

Where it said Goodies or something like that. It was in a folder inside the dmg. I had to because going from 0.8.6i to 0.9.2 crashed. After resetting the preferences everything was good (crash-wise) but x264 content works worse than in 0.8.6i and it has problems reproducing long big files (even usin...

Re: No video playback of .mkv-files with VLC 09.2

I have problems with the combination mkv+x264, specially when there are subtitles. Jumping to the 4th quarter of the movie makes the CPU go crazy and after a while 80% of the times the reproduction stops (the program doesn't close or crash, it just stops playing like if I had pressed the Stop button...

Re: Missing Font Effects in Subtitles VLC 0.9.2

Good to hear that. Though I've noticed that when enabling subtitles (from an mkv for example) the video stops for a couple of seconds and then the playback is ok. I remember that before it was almost instantaneous. Also the fact that it ignores the font type (maybe I'm doing something wrong, I've tr...

Re: I think VLC Destroyed my monitor.

Try using a real operating system like... Windows XP SP3... Mac OS X... most Linux distributions... It's probably nVidia crappy Vista drivers making all that mess. Or maybe you got "the prize!" in one of your video cards.
