One more note. I installed on MacOS Lion with similar results. (But symlinking libaacs.0.dylib to libaacs.dylib fixed the message that I needed the AACS library.)

Thanks for your reply! Unfortunately, I still don't understand. (First, note that I have now upgraded to VLC 1.0.3. The underlying issue is fixed; it no longer puts an extraneous at sign in front of the server address. I haven't been in to the lab to test that this now allows me to connect to a SSM....

I find this all very confusing. Using VLC 1.0.2 on MacOS there is a URL bar that populates through the various buttons and knobs. There is also a collapsed MRL field.
