On Mac, the deinterlacer is turned off by default. This means that DVDs are loaded with interlacing artifacts until I dig through some pretty advanced menus and flip a few switches. I have this same problem... It's VERY annoying. This happens on both my Mac Pro and Mac Mini when I use SPDIF. When I use the analog out, the volume issue goes away.
