Re: Command-line wallpaper mode problems...

Just thought I'd mention that autostarting VLC wallpapers now works great with VLC version 2.2.1. "C:\Program Files (x86)\VideoLAN\VLC\vlc.exe" --qt-start-minimized --video-wallpaper --no-video-title-show --playlist-autostart --loop --playlist-tree "c:\Wallpapers" To avoid having...

Command-line wallpaper mode problems...

When I set a video to wallpaper mode via the GUI (right-click->Set as Wallpaper), I always automatically get the same video appearance as in non-wallpapered mode... The video is automatically resized to fill as much of the desktop area as possible and if the aspect ratio is different from that of th...

Re: Problem displaying IDX/SUB subtitles!

Indeed it is, thanks for notifying me. Version 2.0.2 plays IDX/SUB subtitles without any problem, so this issue is solved. FFmpeg hardware decoding now works for me as well, v1.1.4 produced a green-screen for MPEG2 videos when turned on. Version 2.0.2 solved this...

Re: Problem displaying IDX/SUB subtitles!

I can confirm that this issue still exists on VLC v1.1.4 (Windows 7 SP1 x64). IDX/SUB files will load/appear in menu but won't display on the video, if the video is in a path which contains '#' characters (e.g. "C:\#Downloads#"). However, moving it to a path which contains no '#' character...

Re: MPEG2Video (.mpg) will not play since upgrade

I had a similar issue, just a green screen on any MPEG2 video that I would play, with a tiny strip of the actual video at the top of the screen. The audio would always play fine though, and I had no issue whatsoever with any other codec or file type. Unchecking "Hardware Decoding" for the ...

Smooth looping of video file/sequence (w/o initial delay)?

Is there any neat way to loop a small video file smoothly without the initial delay when VLC loads the file? Apart from, of course, upgrading the CPU and optimizing Windows (though I'm not sure even this would by itself eliminate the delay)... I was thinking of maybe something like buffering the pla...

Re: Compressed ISO (isz) format

Another vote for ISZ support... It's a compressed ISO file but I have no idea what the compression method used is (I'm sure there has to be a specification somewhere on the Internet). Daemon-Tools, UltraISO and Alcohol 120% among others support it... http://www.downloadatoz.com/file-extensions/isz-f...

VLC entry in Firefox helper application list?

Is VLC supposed to be listed in the Firefox "Helper application list" which is invoked when browsing for a utility to open a specific file type with (just to be clear, I'm not querying about the VLC firefox plugin but for vlc.exe)? Because, strangely, VLC is absent from that list in my cas...

Realmedia "sipr" audio codec support?

When opening the following Realmedia stream: rtsp://194.109.152.198/broadcast/tv.rm I get the following error message: No suitable decoder module: VLC does not support the audio or video format "sipr". Unfortunately there is no way for you to fix this. Are there any plans on adding support...

I was set on reporting it as a bug, but I gave up after finally finding the actual page where the reporting is done, just to realize I would have to register yet another account and then have to validate that account on IRC, which I would have to download first, since I haven't used IRC in ages... Re: 'Repair AVI index' alert bug

Good to know, although if a file works as expected I don't even bother trying "fix" it. OTOH, this utility can still be of use for diagnostic purposes, but yeah, rebuilding lots of files with it obviously isn't a good idea...

Re: Normal/Repeat/Loop hotkey OSD?

Don't know, I just mentioned the version number in case earlier versions did have it and this was a bug ;) But either way, a bug or not, I don't see a reason why the Repeat option should lack an OSD given that without it it's impossible to tell what you have switched to, defeating the purpose of hav...

Re: 'Repair AVI index' alert bug

Thanks for the tip, well, apparently that one particular file I've mentioned above in the series of ~30 files is indeed reported broken by Divfix++, however this is happening far too often, so my gut feeling is still that something isn't right. And either way, this doesn't explain the episode when a...

Re: Save the loaded (AVI)file

VLC accepts network (http) links in the Open File dialogue box, I used to do that in MPC all the time although it doesn't look as neat in VLC because VLC unlike MPC leaves the file dialogue box open until the download is complete. Like I mentioned, this way the whole file is downloaded prior to VLC ...

Config file (vlcrc) question...

I was just wondering whether someone could confirm if the settings in the vlcrc config file work in the following way, that if you have lines with conflicting settings then the last of the conflicting lines is the one that will be used and loaded by VLC? The reason I ask is simply because when manua...

Re: 'Repair AVI index' alert bug

Yeah, that's interesting... I also played a series of ~30 files yesterday, all encoded with the same utility and using the exact same parameters, and just one of them is reported as having a broken index. When I ignore this evidently false alert, I am of course able to seek and jump through that fil...

Normal/Repeat/Loop hotkey OSD?

In VLC 1.0.2, why does the Normal/Repeat/Loop toggle key (by default 'l') lack an OSD when pressed?
Is the lack of an OSD a missing feature or a bug?
Since it's a 3-way toggle, it would make sense to know which state is activated and most if not all other hotkeys that I can recall have OSD...

Re: Full controllable non-overlayed subtitles

^^ In the current version (1.0.2), the shortcuts are simply g/h by default, not Ctrl-H/Ctrl+J. That reference was made 2 years ago ;) As for overlayed subtitles, I'm not a fan of them either, overlayed subtitles look just weird and they are hard on the eyes because they lack sharpness and contrast. ...

Open media keyboard shortcuts in fullscreen mode?

Is there any particular reason why some keyboard shortcuts, most notably the Open File/Disc/Network/etc keys, don't work in fullscreen? Can this be implemented in the current or in a future release? Edit: It seems like all hardcoded shortcuts (i.e. that are not configurable in the Hotkeys section) a...

I thought I'd chime in here, instead of creating a separate topic... Occasionally I encounter false alerts about broken AVI indexes, which are perfectly seekable even by VLC itself if the "broken AVI index" alert is simply ignored. Now, before switching to VLC Player I used Media Player Classic in combination with the K-Lite Codec Pack, which also rebuilds ...

.smil file support?

Some web sites store media streams in .smil file format ( .smil definition ), it's particularly used in combination with authentication/password-protected content. It seems that VLC Player doesn't recognize .smil files like RealPlayer, QuickTime and some other media players do. It would be quite eas...
