Minimizing VLC 3.0.9.2 Vetinari in Linux Mint Cinnamon 20.0 and Qt5 does not work. The VLC Qt Main control is configured to minimize to the system tray, but it just minimizes to the panel. What am I doing wrong?

A very late comment. Having had the same issue, I tested
in the ~/.profile file. Either one works for me in LM19.1 Cinnamon

That sounds like a known bug in Qt. You may need a newer version. Isn't Qt a part of VL? If you have the time, can you please explain how to get a new version? VLC cannot change the resolution of the monitor, so by definition, it uses whatever is configured. Thanks for your reply. I am using VLC 3.0.2 in Linux Mint 19. Regardless of the monitor resolution, VLC is displayed as 1280 x 720 pixels. I tried 1920 x 1080, 1664 x 936, 1536 x 864 (all true 16:9 resolutions). Also deleted the /home/user/.config/VLC folder but but it makes no difference.

To elaborate on my own plea for help, someone sent me the menu entry command which didn't work. In Linux Mint 18.3 32bit is missing the menu entry for VLC. I installed + reinstalled from the command line, then purged and installed from Synaptic and is still missing. If someone can tell me the name and the required switches to start vlc, I can create my own menu entry. Thanks in advance.

Using VLC 2.1.6 Rincewind in Xubuntu 14.04 and earlier OS versions as well, regardless of wanting to hide or display the screen, the VLC menu always shows "Hide VLC". Has this been corrected in later versions of VLC and are they available for download?

After loading VLC in past versions, clicking the Play button would display the Open Media dialog. With VLC 2.1.3 Rincewind this is no longer is the case. Was this eliminated, or perhaps I need to enable a setting in Preferences?

Unfortunately, I can't find the download page for version 2.1.0. Videolan only offers 2.0.8 on their main download page. I reverted to v 2.0.0 for the time being and which works fine.

In Windows XP: I updated to v2.0.8 and it has an irritating scratching sound as well it constantly crashes. I would like to start the Vlc player 2.0.1 from the command line, minimized in the system tray and streaming a url. This code works fine: vlc "http://www.koqx.com:8000", but I couldn't find any info to start the player in the system tray. Is this possible in Win XP?

Each time I start VLC my previously selected media library entries disappear. Currently, I am using v2-0.1 TwoFlower, but loosing my selected folder has always been a problem in all previous versions. What am I doing wrong?
