you should use 0.8.1. since it is the cleanest and best release up to date. Nearly everything in vlc can be disabled, so vlc could still (even though being a bit heavy by default) be a ultra lightweight player. porting it to a palm should not be _that_ hard provided some points * you have a c compil...

the core of vlc have been extended to support this kind of functionality, but as of yet this particular feature still needs to be ported. I did have a look myself, but I have no compatible equipment, and neither does anyone else on my network, so it's kind of hard for me to know if it works or not. ...

the real question is why the operating system dies, not what kills it. Usually it means buggy drivers.

I know it is possible with opera, so your question reduces to a pure firefox tweaking question, which this may not be the right place to ask.

from execlp man-page: The first argument, by convention, should point to the file name asso- ciated with the file being executed. The list of arguments must be terminated by a NULL pointer, and, since these are variadic functions, this pointer must be cast (char *) NULL. I guess this should give you...

yes, your strategy is wrong. there are currently two ways to do this: 1. Using an unmodified vlc (probably need 0.8.x) you can do this using vlm. Just follow the streaming examples in the documentation, but skip the sout part. 2. Using modified sources you could call input_Create several times (at l...

It does not have any spyware, it is fairly light on memory and fairly cpu efficient, but it does not support any decoding hardware acceleration, so 433 MHz will probably be just too little to decode divx.

Vlc uses the font and font size defined in the preferences. The defaults should be sensible, so I think you must have changed it. Please try to open preferences dialog and press "reset all".

you can use marq with --sub-filter if you only want display and no transcoding.

something like this should work:
vlc yourfile.mpg --sub-filter marq --marq-marquee="Your text here" --marq-x=50 --marq-y=50
