VLC auto-loads srt if same name as movie. I want VLC to automatically load all SRT files in movie's folder & /subs/.

From what I’ve observed,VLC will automatically load subtitles (SRT extension) if the srt file has the same name as the movie file. For example, if the movie file is movie2021.mp4 and the subtitle file is movie2021.srt, VLC automatically loads the subtitle. But if the subtitle is for example english....

How can I see how much time remains for a video to end based on my chosen playback speed?

I like to play videos at high speed. I wish I could see how much time remains for the video to finish based on my chosen playback speed.
Is this something I can do with the latest VLC version?
I'm using 3.0.8 Vetinari on Linux Mint 19.3.

How can I get VLC to get the "focus" when I double-click a movie file, and while VLC is already open/running?

Running VLC 3.0.4 Vetinari on Linux Mint 19.1 Cinnamon. I usually start playback of a movie by doubleclicking the movie file in my Nemo file explorer. VLC opens up and starts playing. I noticed something: Situation 1. If VLC is not currently open/running when I double click the movie file, VLC will ...

I'd like an audiograph (like Audacity's audio track). How?

Is there a way I could

Audacity has an audio track which gives a visual representation of the audio. It looks like this: Image

Can we get something like that with VLC?

Sorry, what's S/PDIF? The MKV file is on my hard drive. I'm not using any s/pdif cable/connector.

Re: I don't see any more on-screen indicators (e.g. change in volume or playback sped)

No, no OSD at all. No OSD when I change volume or playback speed, or when I go forward or backward in the file. Nothing at all. Does this mean that the build in the PPA is broken?

Audio is "clippy" when playback speed is not 1.0X

I was trying to play an MKV file on my VLC. When I change the playback speed, the audio becomes clippy/choppy. (When I bring back the playback speed to normal, the audio is perfect again.) I run VLC in verbose mode and got this: $ vlc -v foo.mkv VLC media player 3.0.0-git Vetinari (revision 3.0.0~~g...

How can I skip over periods of silence in mp3?

How can I skip over periods of silences in an mp3?

To clarify, I don't just mean manually pressing "Fast-Forward". I mean an automatic/intellegent skipping done by VLC itself, not by me.

Re: VLC crashes when I try to "Convert/Save" Network stream

Update to VLC 2.2.4.
Should I go with https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/vlc/2.2.4-4? If so, how do i install that? I'm on Mint 18.
UPDATE: I think the above link is not available for Mint 18. It's for newer versions of Mint/Ubuntu.

or with Master Daily (3.0.0)?

VLC crashes when I try to "Convert/Save" Network stream

On my Android smartphone, I have an app called IP Camera. The Android phone and my Linux Mint computer are connected by an ad-hoc network (hotspot) I created on the Linux computer. There is no problem if I choose VLC>Media>Open_Network_Stream (Ctrl+N). But VLC crashes if I choose VLC>Media>Convert/S...

Set location of VLC log file in Preferences but no good

Hello, Using version 2.0.2 TwoFlower. In Tools/Preferences (Ctrl-P), I turned on All settings, then went to Advanced/Logging. For log filename, I set it to C:\Users\booga\Desktop\vlc_log.txt (which I've just created). I then tried to use a subtitle file in the IDX format, and it tells me to look at ...

Synchronizing subtitles to movie

Hi, Using TwoFlower (VLC version 2.0.2) on Windows 7. I looked over the Wiki.videolan.org documentation, but it looks like it's the manual for a much older VLC version and thus does not help. I am watching a film with a subtitle file (I dragged and dropped the SRT file into VLC main window). I've al...

Re: Subtitles for some DVD movies look ugly/hard to read

Jean,
Playing a DVD in VLC and the subtitles are ugly. When I "cut" a section in Handbrake, the resulting m4v file has a nice subtitle. That is very wierd. How can I show you my problem if Handbrake doesn't reproduce the ugliness?

for slight increase in speed and

for slightly slower playback.

change playback speeds with smaller increments

Is it possible to tweak VLC so that the keyboard shortcuts for increasing or decreasing playback speeds (the plus and minus keys) change playback speeds in smaller increments? Currently, pressing the Plus key increases playback speed from 1.0X to 1.5X to 2.0X and on. But I wish I could have the plus...
