Many users wanna use VLC to view their own movies. For this purpose an automatic or manual brightness & contrast adjustment would be a good thing since self made videos are rarely perfect.

With Quicktime it is possible to stop the movie. Then you can move singleton frames forward/backward by pressing <-/-> the cursor keys. By keeping the forward key pressed the movie is played in slow motion. This would as well be a good feature for VLC.
