Problem still exists in 3.0.18 with none of the suggestions above working any better than 3 years ago. I see from other posts that this issue has been reported for over 10 years!

There is a solution: Tools > Preferences > ( Show settings = All ) > Interface \ Main Interfaces \ Qt: [ ] Resize interface to the native video size Save changes. "Resize video to window size" is NOT checked. It has noe ffect in this behaviour.

I have this problem constantly with a single screen. Resetting preferences doesn't help. This problem exhibits on multiple different Windows laptops for me (all different makes) and from Windows 7 to Windows 10. It's most annoying when I want to click the "Continue" button on the top, but ...

Thank goodness I found this timely thread as I had near-identical situation where m4a produced no audio. The problem must have started recently (some time after installing 1.01) but putting those extra codecs at the start of the preferences line seemed to do the trick. The command line option didn't...
