MPEG file conformance check?

Hi!

As a followup to https://trac.videolan.org/vlc/ticket/7636#comment:14
I wonder if there is some kind of MPEG file validator or similar tool available?

In the particular case, to determine if VLC creates broken/non-standard files or not.

David

Mail list usage?

Hi!

Is "anyone" reading the VLC mail list? There was no activity on it for more than a month. And it wasn't very active before that either.

Regards,
David

PS: The VLC 2.10 released sticky thread is obsolete now when 2.2.0 is out.

Video size in docked playlist mode

Why can't I move the marked edge (see screenshot) higher?

I want a bigger video, but can move the upper edge only lower, not up, even if there is plenty of unused space above the video.

Deinterlace ... forever

Recently I gained access to TV streams and that means interlaced video. Is there an combination of options for deinterlacing that I can set and forget? I was thinking about turning on "Deinterlace / automatic " and selecting a "good" deinterlace mode. I am looking for 60 refreshe...

top-bottom 3D to anaglyph?

Is there a way to watch top-bottom encoded 3D video in VLC displayed as anaglyph? In other words, does it have top-bottom to anaglyph converter? I know there is a left-right to anaglyph filter, called "anaglyph" , but is seems to expect left-right coding and it is not configurable for top/...

Video black is too bright

Hi! I noticed that black in a playing movie (night scene, played in full screen, so I have black bars above and below the video) is too bright. It is correct when playing with Windows Media Player. It appears to be related to the 0-255 vs 16-235 range issue.(see this google search result: http://dan...

Re: MJPEG playback high CPU usage

It is already low when using WMP. This thread is not about that. --- I tried under Ubuntu 11.10 64 bit "live boot" and VLC 1.1.12 on the HP server. The output of top is: top - 18:51:07 up 18 min, 9 users, load average: 0.21, 0.47, 0.41 Tasks: 153 total, 2 running, 151 sleeping, 0 stopped, ...

Re: MJPEG playback high CPU usage

I checked the test file on an HP nw8440 laptop (Core2 Duo T7200, Windows XP):
- VLC 1.1.11 : 13 % CPU
- WMP 11: 17 % CPU

And on a desktop PC with Pentium 4 530 CPU and Windows XP:
- VLC 1.1.11 : 15 % CPU
- WMP 9: 20 % CPU

Re: MJPEG playback high CPU usage

I tried another file (from another camera, this time 720p, again in MJPEG).

Now WMP 12 uses 30-35% CPU, while VLC is at 100% and is skipping frames.

On the third PC, both players are at 100% and skipping frames. (this one has an Athlon XP2200+ CPU)

MJPEG playback high CPU usage

Hi! Using VLC 1.1.11 on Windows 7 SP1 64 bit, I noticed it uses much more CPU than Windows Media Player when playing MJPEG movies (in AVI container). VLC uses about 66%, while WMP 20% for the same file. This is similar on two PCs. One netbook with Atom N270 (1.6 GHz one core, two threads) and one HP...

Back again!

There is another list consulted by the forum server: http://dnsbl.tornevall.org/

Click on "Test your ip" (first item in the menu) to see if they list your IP address.

Re: Login problems since august

I checked on that web page my work IP address and also my home IP address. They both come out all green icons ("Not Listed"). I also checked my parents IP and a random IP I got using Tor. They are also all green, but only my parents IP allows me to log in. There must be some other reason. ...

Re: Login problems since august

I got a new IP address from my ISP and now I can access the site. As the old address is mine since months, can you please unban it? Why was it banned at all? In a world of dynamically assigned IP address's such bans just hurt the innocent, as spammers and others just redial to get a different IP. As...

One instance when encoding or streaming

Using 1.1.11 on Windows XP I started a transcoding, then doubleclicked a movie file in explorer. The transcoding was interrupted and the clicked file started plaing in that instance. This is IMO wrong. It should have been opened in another instance or at least it should ask "Interrupt the trans...

Re: Login problems since august

My current home IP address is x3.(x+1)3.187.9.
My work IP address is u.z.48.48 (IIRC, I'll send the correct number tomorrow).
I also tried to access the forum via Tor, but I got the same error as usully, even after many tries. Is Tor blocked somehow?
