When I added the "--extraintf=logger --verbose=2 --logfile=C:\temp\vlc.log --logmode=text --file-logging" string to the desktop shortcut, the VLC worked normal. The VLC crashed without it, and from an elevated command prompt. I got two logs now.

I reinstalled the VLC and that seems to have fixed the problem.

I have already sent the log file, but I can't see that post. By the way, music files I am talking about are really mp4 videos but I play them for music. I have also tested Directx, Dxdiag gave no errors.

My Windows 7 is using english GUI, but my keyboard is finnish. I like it that way. Most applications understand to keep their language setting at english. The new VLC started with finnish GUI. I had to reset the preferences.

I must try this. Yes, it seems that XP here does not know what kind of disk is in the drive. That is the copy protection they did (Microsoft) not want to make in XP.
