don't hold your breath for a fix by VideoLAN
they catagorically say it's not a VLC issue
still not convinced it's not
time will tell
in the mean time using GOM Player and all is OK

thanks for replying when installing GOM it goes thru a configuration wizard there is a 'Codec Setting' section where it asks whether you want to choose GOM Players built in codec system (recommended), in particular, use the internal video and audio codecs. Since installing Windows 7 32bit have noticed how fuzzy videos are. Today i tried Windows Media Player and the picture was OK, as it was when using Vista.
