Artifacts are solved in vlc media player version 2.2.0.

This issue can now be solved by updating to VLC media player 2.2.0 or newer and can be closed.

I'm all in favor of xspf because of this qualities.
(Checked it out on the Xiph.org website, know it's existance for a few years now.)

It's a wonderful format, hopefully it will be adopted a lot.

It would be really intuitive and useful to be able to use those keys.

Yes, it would be handy to be able to see and set which format vlc uses.
This is particular useful when the user wants to know or just wants to set a preferred format.
