Same problem here, Mac OS X 10.5.7, VLC 1.0.0 (tried using older versions too) VLC reads the file fine, it looks like VLC just can't process the video fast enough to display the DVD or VOB files; dark frames have a better chance of making it to the screen, but overall the video is unwatchable.
