Re: MP3Gain tag is only read on 2nd play of a file

Thanks Rémi, this is good to know. I'm unable to contribute since I have no programming experience, but I'll be more than happy to do testing for you guys if required. Hope somebody can squash this one!

MP3Gain tag is only read on 2nd play of a file

Hey guys, I have a ton of multichannel music on my computer in various formats, e.g., OGG, FLAC, M4A. On several albums, I am using the following MP3Gain tag in the metadata to raise the gain: REPLAYGAIN_TRACK_GAIN When I play them back in VLC, they play at un-amplified volume. Only when I click the...

A/52 and DCA codec options missing in flatpak

Hello, VLC team! In Preferences > All > Input/Codecs > Audio Codecs, the A/52 and DCA options are missing in the flatpak version. How can I get them back? I'd like to disable dynamic range compression.

AC3 sounds softer and muddier than FLAC (otherwise same content!)

I noticed on Linux Mint 19.3 that some Dolby Digital (AC3 aka A/52) 5.1 tracks play much softer and muddier than the exact same content decoded to FLAC. The same is not true for other media players, like Parole. Happens using PulseAudio. Here's a video where you can clearly hear the difference: http...

Re: Global Hotkeys don't work in Linux Mint 19.3 (Ubuntu 18.04)

I completely removed VLC from my system (apt remove --purge), deleted all config folders I could find on my computer, re-installed and tried again.

Still no luck. Is there a way to get the global hotkeys to work?

Re: FLAC playback broken since yesterday

I may have fixed this. I made thew following changes in the VLC Preferences: Video: disable video All > Input > Audio codecs: disable compression for A/52 and DCA All > Audio: * Disable Peak protection, time-stretching, force detection of Dolby Surround * Enable Force S/PDIF, Remember audio volume *...

FLAC playback broken since yesterday (pops/audio dropouts)

Hello, folks! Yesterday, VLC started dropping the audio at the beginning of multichannel (4.0, 4.1, 5.1, 7.1) FLAC files. In 9/10 cases, there's a split-second audio dropout during the first second of any song. This started happening after I ran BleachBit on my computer. I tried completely purging a...

Global Hotkeys don't work in Linux Mint 19.3 (Ubuntu 18.04)

Hey guys! Has anybody gotten the global hotkeys in VLC to work? I set Play/Pause to Super+5, Play to Ctrl+Alt+4 and Pause to Ctrl+Alt+6. However, they don't work at all, regardless of whether the app is in focus or not. I know I can set a play/pause hotkey in Linux Mint's Keyboard Settings app, but ...

Re: H.264: corrupt video in Ubuntu 16.04 & VLC 2.2.2

A-ha! I found it, and that does the trick! Thank you very much for your help.

For anybody coming here in the future for reference, the correct option is in Preferences => Input / Codecs => Hardware-accelerated decoding. Set to "Disable".

Re: H.264: corrupt video in Ubuntu 16.04 & VLC 2.2.2

Yeah, I hear ya. However, even after disabling Preferences => Video => Accelerated video output (Overlay), and even after cycling through all output modes available, the problem never really completely went away. The best I got was badly stuttering video with insane screen tearing. I'm guessing I'm ...

Re: H.264: corrupt video in Ubuntu 16.04 & VLC 2.2.2

Quick update: reported a bug, but the team closed it saying it was probably an issue with the NVidia drivers. I went ahead and switched to SMPlayer, which plays everything without problems. :-) Hope the issue resolves itself some time in the future though, cos I love VLC. Still using it for all othe...

Re: [Ubuntu Gnome 14.10] Video flickers / flashes black

I never solved this completely... Though for some reason, it's stopped in most cases. I'm now on Ubuntu GNOME 15.04, 64-bit, with a GeForce 970 GTX. Only DVDs are unwatchable on my PC right now, which I solve either by ripping them to MKV or by booting into Windows. Does this happen with all video f...

[Ubuntu Gnome 14.10] Video flickers / flashes black

Hey guys, Going crazy... I really hope you can help me with this one. Ever since I updated to Ubuntu Gnome 14.10, 64-bit (NVidia graphics card, latest drivers), video playback flickers in VLC. Anybody else experience this? I went through all video outputs there are, and the problem persists with all...

Thanks! I got it to work in the meantime... It was just a matter of endlessly fiddling around with the settings. Here's the setup that now works for me (pretty straightforward, actually): - First, select "All" in "Show Settings" in the options menu - Under "Audio", I ha...

Cannot get 5.1 sound in Ubuntu (9.04 Jaunty 64-bit) :-((((

Hey guys, today, I bought a small 5.1 surround system and hooked it up to my 7.1 sound card (nVidia Corporation MCP61 High Definition Audio). It's my first time with 5.1 sound: so far, I always used stereo. I'm on Ubuntu Jaunty 64 bit. I've been toying around with this a bit, but I can't get the 5.1...
