Re: Default ALSA sound device setting ignored

It may well be the correct issue. I had to go from vlc-beta 3 back to vlc 2.2.1 from packman for openSUSE and the issue still exists. The last post from your link suggests that someone backport the fix to 2.2.2 and hopefully I'll get an upgrade offered from packman soon. Thanks for that link.

Re: Default ALSA sound device setting ignored

I changed to the git version of vlc-beta 3.0 from the openSUSE repository. The sound problem is fixed as well as the two window problem. The build in question has been designed to regress to QT4 for now. There were window resizing problems the last time I tried vlc-beta, but those issues have now be...

Re: No sound output on Fedora 23

In the "tools>preferences>Audio settings", the "output module" should be a drop-down list. What other options are there? Did you try any of them? If you open a terminal, what does the command "alsamixer" show, assuming you have alsa installed? When you tested your syste...

Re: Default ALSA sound device setting ignored

I get VLC via the packman repository that openSUSE lists. I guess I'll wait until the update reaches there.

openSUSE is aware of the QT5 problems and are working on it. The bug is widely reported there.

Thanks for the update. It's much more than I knew before.

Re: TrueHD in VLC Player v2.2.1

In openSUSE, all I could suggest is that you ensure that the vlc-codecs package (I think that's what it's called) is installed. It will come from the packman repository, which is the better place to install VLC from if you want to stick to repositories that openSUSE recommends. I don't typically try...

Re: No sound output on Fedora 23

How do I check the output device? There are no listing of devices under audio device. How do I make it list? Where are the debug logs? When you say that your speakers work, how were they tested? Do system sounds and other media players work correctly? It might not hurt to state what your sound hard...

Re: Default ALSA sound device setting ignored

That bug was already fixed some time ago. Apparently not. I upgraded to openSUSE 42.1 and the bug exists. I reported this on the openSUSE forums. I have had over 200 views and not a single suggestion, so I will copy the text of my openSUSE post here. First off, I should state that I do not use puls...

Re: VLC Opens 2 windows

On the openSUSE forums they believe that the is a problem in how VLC works with QT5 and seems to be limited to openSUSE 42.1 and a couple of other versions. It worked correctly in openSUSE 13.2. I installed VLC-beta (3.0.0) from the openSUSE421 packman repository and the problem is gone. There is an...

Re: Volume problem in vlc-beta

Great. vlc-beta seems to take better advantage of the alsa snd-virtuoso driver for my sound card than what the "released" version gives me. I'll watch for the latest release and give it a try.

Re: Volume problem in vlc-beta

I don't use pulse audio. Downgrading to vlc 1.1.11 solved the problem. The problem seems to be with vlc-beta-1.2.2011072001.2-x86_64 as this began just yesterday. I have used vlc-beta for a very long time. This is a new behavior. When vlc starts, it seems to ignore all "volume" preferences...

Volume problem in vlc-beta

This just began today. I am assuming that an upgrade caused it. When I open any file with vlc-beta, it opens with extreme volume and clipping. Touching the volume control instantly fixes it, but the problem remains unless the volume is touched. I have set vlc to open with volume set to zero, in an a...

Re: flv files no longer play

Sorry for the late reply. For whatever reason, I never received an e-mail notification concerning your response even though I am subscribed to the thread. I am not sure what you mean by "posting a small sample". I do have a bit more information though. I found that VLC does play a small po...

Re: VLC won't release sound driver in Opensuse 11.2

Sorry for the late reply. I assumed that when I open a thread, that I would automatically be subscribed to it. I wasn't. If you were asking about Pulse audio, I tried the most recent version from the OpenSuSE repositories. It breaks other types of multimedia packages and many at the OpenSuSE forums ...

flv files no longer play

Recently, all my .flv files will no longer play with VLC. They play fine in Kaffeine and Mplayer, so I know that the files are not corrupted. I simply do not understand VLC well enough to know where to look for the correct plugin or the proper steps to troubleshoot. I get no error messages of any ki...

Re: Audio drops after about 1.25 hours into playback

Just to add a little info, not all DVDs fail to record properly. Several have been fine. But the ones that fail; fail regardless of which computer I use and which operating system (Opensuse 11.2 or Windows XP Pro) I use. I run both operationg systems on both computers and I have tried the same disk ...

Re: VLC won't release sound driver in Opensuse 11.2

Every time I have tried to use Pulse Audio with Opensuse, I have had many headaches. The error message that I get from VLC suggests that I upgrade alsa-lib to version 1.0.24 because of a known alsa bug. The problem is that alsa 1.0.24 does not exist that I know of. Alsa 1.0.23 is the newest, which i...

VLC won't release sound driver in Opensuse 11.2

If I have youtube, or any web page with sound open in a browser and then open VLC Media Player, I get a message that VLC is unable to initialize the sound card. I consider it to be normal behavior. As soon as I close the browser, the sound card is released and VLC has no problems. Now, if I close VL...

Re: Audio drops after about 1.25 hours into playback

I have the identical problem. The entire audio of the DVD plays fine during playback, but if I replay the recording, the last part of the audio isn't there. I assumed that the missing audio would have been from the last VOB file from the DVD to play, but that is only a guess. Hope someone has sugges...

7.1 Surround (wmap) problem

I converted all my music to wma 7.1 surround. When I open any of those files, dmesg shows: [0x7fb2c40b9008] main decoder error: no suitable decoder module for fourcc `wmap'. VLC probably does not support this sound or video format. [0x7fb2c4008898] main input error: Invalid PCR value in ES_OUT_SET_(...
