Ok, thanks. I was trying to find a ffmpeg.dll or libavcodec.dll and check the file properties for info, but it's apparently too deeply embedded for that.

He can I tell what versions of the ffmpeg and libavcodec is being used by a VLC installation? Thanks!

really? nobody else here needs to transcode x265 to x264?

it seems to play ok, but will not transcode from h.265 to another format.
