YES! Renaming to vlc2.exe works! Thank you for your help, it was a very distressing situation (I really can't do without vlc player). Please, what was the problem, and how did renaming the file help? How did it happen, no sound one day to the next without me changing anything? This is just curiosity...

you mean removing the user/appdata/roaming/vlc folder? If that's the one you mean, I did but nothing happened. It's very strange.
