Re: No smoothing

As some other players also have the problem, I wonder if the tablet just has a buggy video driver. (Although XBMC for some reason does not have the problem.)
That may be the answer, i don't think we can do anything to fix that.

Re: subtitle hw decoding?

I think it's not hw subtitle decoding, it's the rendering.
Right now vlc blends subtitles in the video before displaying it.
We are aware of that, it should be possible to let the hardware do the blending (like it's done on vlc desktop), but nobody has worked on it for android yet.

Re: No smoothing

VLC doesn't do resizing or smoothing, it relies on android (and the hardware) to do that. VLC sends 480x320 frames on a 1024x768 surface (or something like that depending on the setting), android should do what is necessary to resize properly. But i remember we had something like that a few weeks ag...

Since nobody added support for dvd menus on vlc-android, i'm curious how it could work. You are obviously using another app.

you are trying to play a DVD and use the menu. DVD menu is simply not supported at all on android, it won't react.

Video Resolution : 1916x86 typo ? you meant something around 1920x1080 i guess. with Hardware Acceleration OFF, your phone is just not powerful enough. i don't even know if there is a device powerful enough to play 1080p smoothly without hardware acceleration. Looks like the hardware codecs used by...

yep of course, my post was an answer to edwardw about the service (we both work on the android version of vlc), and to share knowledge about the RAM used. About what you asked: 1. i confirm there's an issue, "fill" doesn't work properly 2. yes i think there is some delay, but it doesn't co...

Re: bug

About the service, it's not that simple. The service and the app share the same process, and the same ram usage. so the 60Mb of RAM that you see, it's for both the service and the app. When nothing is playing or is paused, the service is there, but flagged as killable if necessary. That means that t...

Re: Nexus 7

Do yuo know why its only in portrait mode? I think it happens when scaling down high res videos (done by the OS using the hardware). In portrait, the video must be scaled from 1280x720 to something like 720x405, and lines appears. with smaller videos, less scaling must be done, so no artefacts. No ...

Re: Willing to run more tests on HTC One X+

Ok, good to know that the OneX+ is the same as the OneX, hardware decoding is unusable. Because of all the "hack" that were necessary to use hardware decoders on android, a lot of data is copied several times in memory. Both have a tegra3 cpu, it's powerful, but it comes with slow memory, ...

L'idée peut être sympa et marrante a mettre en oeuvre, mais ca risque d'être plus pénible qu'autre chose. En marchant, on le secoue en permanence le téléphone, du coup, comment faire la différence ?

looks like the cpu is at its limit, or another app is busy in the background, and sometimes vlc drops a few frames, causing some artefacts.

Re: Read Phone State (my IMEI / Phone Number) Permission!

To be more precise, MX Player plays videos, so the player is always on the foreground. When there's a call, the screen to answer shows up, and mx player is put in the background. That's easy to detect and pause the video. As jb said, vlc also plays audio, using a service. so it's always in the backg...

Re: Read Phone State (my IMEI / Phone Number) Permission!

We don't use any phone data, we use phone state permission to pause playback when receiving phone calls.
It seems the same permission gives access to phone data, but we don't use them (you can check the code if you want).

Re: VLC Player in WPF (C#) Application

In the same window, Windows Form components will always be drawn on top of wpf controls, that is a limitation of .NET, and there is nothing you can do to change that. You can use use vmem to get raw frames, and display them yourself in a wpf control. An easier workaround is to use 2 wpf windows (one...

With libvlc 1.1.x, it's possible using libvlc_log_* functions.
with 2.0, as jb said, it's not possible yet (logging has changed in vlc)

Re: libvlc_audio_set_channel not working

I've just tested with libvlc 1.1.12, it works fine.
How are you calling them ?

Those functions works only during playback.
If you call them before or after playback, they won't work, and libvlc_errmsg will return "no audio input".
