Re: Forced subtitles don't work

Assuming you're talking about VIDEO_TS structures (VOB files), the only player I know that does this correctly is Apple's DVDPlayer, however development of DVDPlayer has been abandoned and to use it in the latest versions of macOS requires some trickery. Let me know if you want the details. Out of ...

So, do forced subtitles work? if not, is there any hope of it working in a planned version?

VLC Installer: Associate only with unassociated file types

VLC Installer should have an option called "Associate only with unassociated file types" (aka those file types no other media player currently installed in your system recognizes). For example, I 've met many people who accidentally made VLC their default software for music playback, altho...

Can this be a solution to the forced subtitles problem?

Can the following be a solution to the forced subtitles problem? 1. Make the forced subtitles track appear as a "language" in the subtitle menu, with a name like "(forced-only)" 2. Make VLC default to "(forced-only)" instead of "Disabled" if no external (ie sr...

Re: Vote here to have scroll wheel & button vol control disa

Ok then. I only wanted to make things better. I am hearing lots of real life feedback from people (cousins etc) who find it annoying that when they have their laptop's volume set to something like 3%, and launch a movie with VLC, they can't increase the volume (in a meaningful way) by using the lapt...

Vote here to have scroll wheel & button vol control disabled

Am I the only one that doesn‘t like VLC‘s new “feature“ where everytime you press the volume up button on your laptop, VLC increases it‘s own volume instead of letting the system increase the system volume, as it should? Similar for the volume down button. Com‘ on guys! It‘s good practice to have th...

Re: Time for Blu-Ray support guys...

Cool. But what's the difference of "reading m2ts files" and "reading BDMV folder"? If menus don't work, what else is in the folder that VLC can play? Well, if the movie is in pieces (=split in different m2ts files), then it's good to be able to play the entire BDMV folder, and n...

Re: Time for Blu-Ray support guys...

It doesn't support BD-J yet (on going) That's very good news. If VLC manages to get full Bluray support, mac users are really going to open champagne bottles (even if it's for unencrypted Blurays only). Now, If you want to play a bluray on a mac, besides the fact you have to manually copy the encry...

Re: Time for Blu-Ray support guys...

AFAIK yes. By "support" you mean: a) a "bluray disc" option in the "open" menu, which just plays the m2ts files or b) full bluray support (for non encrypted discs), with BD-J menus, PiP effect and the rest. I guess it's the first. Right? Can VLC even do Bluray's PiP ef...

Re: Deinterlacing 50i to 50p with Yadif

Regular Yadif will output 25 FPS while Yadif 2x is a bobber and will output 50 FPS. Which one to use is really your own choice depending on the source, your taste, your needs and your CPU. As a tip Yadif 2x might be better for fast action scenes like sports. Thanks for the answer! I was a little co...

Deinterlacing 50i to 50p with Yadif

Hi,

I have a 50i source with I would like to deinterlace to 50p. Should I choose "Yadif" or "Yadif (2x)"?

Re: VLC 1.1.0 wont play DVD "properly" from HDD

Does this happen with all DVD movies, or only with a specific one?

If it happens with a specific DVD, please share title + region. If someone from devel comes across the same movie, then it would be easier to find the problem.

Re: VLC 1.1.0 wont play DVD "properly" from HDD

I am not from the Videolan team, but can you share the IFO? Even if it comes from a commercial movie, it's not techincally piracy, because I doubt that sharing IFO data can be considered "copyright infrigment". Plus, you can take fragments of a copyrighted work for demonstration and educat...

Re: ! VLC Appreciation Thread

I also want to give my big thanks to the videolan team. I still remember that in 2003, I had to rummage through various media players like FLV player and Divx Inc's player, tolerate Quicktime getting possesive on my system and PowerDVD's double windows. Not to forget WMP, which,as the versions progr...

Re: What is this? Nvidia vs AMD and Intel

Anyone? I am unusually persistent on this, because having your media player crash every 5 minutes is so 2003, and it certainly doesn't match Videolan's reputation for stability. Please stop ignoring us, and please tell us what to do if we have an ATI or Intel card. Leave it with the default setting...

Re: What is this? Nvidia vs AMD and Intel

- ATI driver has one issue that is blocking VLC to work correctly with DxVA. As soon as this is fixed, we'll be happy :D So, does this mean that VLC will crash all the time on ATI cards (=obliterated home cinema pc), or that VLC will just work without DXVA on ATI cards (not a major problem). In sim...

What is this? Nvidia vs AMD and Intel

What is this? NB: so far, on Windows, VideoLAN is forced to recommend nVidia® GPU, until ATI® fixes their drivers on Windows, and until VLC developer get access to some Intel® hardware supporting GPU decoding. Does this mean VLC's DXVA2 support doesn't work on ATI and Intel cards? Or that VLC doesn'...

Ship the windows build with the "YUV->RGB conversions" off

Hi. Here is the easiest feature request ever. Since all Windows graphics card drivers since 2007 seem to have their YUV->RGB conversions broken , why not ship the Windows build of VLC with the "Use hardware YUV to RGB conversions" option disabled in the default settings? Please? PowerDVD a...

Re: Black in VLC Player not truly black/colour quality issue

And here comes a major feature request: Since all windows drivers since 2007 or so have this problem, why not ship the Windows build of VLC with the hardware YUV to RGB conversions disabled in the default settings? PowerDVD and others seem to use a similar method to get around the YUV -> RGB problem.

Re: Black in VLC Player not truly black/colour quality issue

Thanks , that sorted the problem out great. However , now when I start a video using VLC player , windows 7 switches to the basic theme from the more advanced aero theme. Strange. Step by step: 1. Open VLC 2. Tools --> Preferences --> Video 4. Disable "Use Hardware YUV --> RGB conversions"...

Why GCC and not LLVM?

There has been a lot of talk lately about how LLVM is better and greater than GCC. So, if LLVM is so great, why everyone (including videolan) is still using GCC instead of LLVM? Is it a license-related or technical reason? I mean, even Apple is using it for their SDKs, so why not the GPL world too?
