Re: If the bugs of 1.0.x maintance don't start falling...

Hooray! 1 bug down, 22 more to go! (still no news from 1.1) Ok, I understand VLC is free software, but what's the point of slapping a "3 weeks" release date, when you know there is no chance in hell for the release to be ready by that date. There are people planning their computing (mainta...

Re: Illegal Use of Videolan

They are only "repacked" in that they have a different installer, the VLC program files are probably the official ones. Again, not a good thing. You can never be sure what else might be in that unofficial installer. For example, some other sites are offering builds of VLC with third party...

... you may consider bundling Duke Nukem Forever with the next release of VLC.

There have been 23 tickets the last 3 days, most of them unassigned.

Re: Illegal Use of Videolan

Yeah, apparently they can offer and advertise VLC as a free program but to gain access to it you'd have to pay for other non-VLC related software or registration. It's wrong but not illegal. Is it a "repacked" version of VideoLan? By "repacked" I mean VLC with a different...

Re: Forget about the other things. THIS is what needs to be done

I strongly, strongly propose to make a "VLC 1.1 Multicore (beta)" edition, to be offered next to the official "VLC 1.1" version. It won't hurt the official release (and it's stability) and you will get precious feedback from early adopters like me for whatever bugs there might b...

Re: Forget about the other things. THIS is what needs to be done

2. there is already some DxVA code in VLC, it might be activated for 1.1 Please yes! 3. we need more samples to activat it. Ok then... 1. There have been multiple discussions about this. You can already use ffmpeg-mt with VLC if you build VLC by yourself. But for official builds this transition mig...

Forget about the other things. THIS is what needs to be done

Pretty much everyone who is a frequent visitor of the video-related forums of the web and user of VLC, knows what really needs to be done to make it better. Surprisingly however, none of these requests can be found in the "feature requests" secton of this forum, which seems to have become ...

Re: Support for XSUB - Divx internal subtitles (DXSB)

We probably will.
Could you do this for VLC 1.1? VLC 1.1 will probably be the most important milestone, so full compatibility with the divx standard will make it a double win 8)

Re: Support for XSUB - Divx internal subtitles (DXSB)

So, are we getting out-of-the-box support for XSUBS in VLC 1.1 or not?
Yes, just enable --demux avformat.
This is not out-of-the-box support. Can't you just port the thing from avformat to the current demuxer?

Re: Support for XSUB - Divx internal subtitles (DXSB)

So, are we getting out-of-the-box support for XSUBS in VLC 1.1 or not? People often say to me that Divx files can't have internal subs, and it's really embarrasing that I have to tell them "They can when the .divx container is used, but unfortunately the player I recommended to you doesn't sup...

Re: Support for XSUB - Divx internal subtitles (DXSB)

1. It uses AVI demuxer of libavformat (not the default of VLC) Since I don't intent to do this experiment with all my files (to see if they work as good as now), is there any way to get XSUB support without messing with the settings? If not, could you please add it on the default demuxer? It's shou...

Re: How to get better performance when playing HD H.264

Will my old cpu (Pentium D 2.8ghz duel core) in my dell xps 400 work with my new computer? I'm afraid this CPU will be a bit short for some 1080p videos. It should be OK for 720p though. But nowadays you need at the very least a Core2Duo at 2.6 GHz to be able to play 1080p smoothly in software mode...

Re: Support for XSUB - Divx internal subtitles (DXSB)

If you force avformat on, it should.
1) What exactly the avformat does? 2)What are the pros and cons of having it on?

3)Also, is "avformat on" enabled by default? Because most people (my self included) don't even consider touching the the video settings.

Re: Support for XSUB - Divx internal subtitles (DXSB)

Well, the problem is the AVI demuxer of VLC that doesn't support it. Using the avformat demuxer in VLC 1.1 works.
So, does this means that VLC 1.1, when it comes out, it will support XSUBs properly?

Re: How to get better performance when playing HD H.264

Just do something about the multicore support, at least for H.264 vids only. You can always provide help to the ffmpeg team, so the codecs become threaded. If you are the devs that bought us x264, you could make an exellent threaded decoder if you cooperated with the ffmpeg team. After all, ffmpeg-m...

Re: Automatic deinterlacing for interlaced videos, yadiff filter.

Auto deinterlacing will come in 1.1, not before.
I use yadif, and it is fine. Frame doubling is usually not necessary, but feel free to use it :D
Since Yadiff 2x doesn't hurt quality (right?), I will use that.

Re: Automatic deinterlacing for interlaced videos, yadiff filter.

And it's officially on VLC 1.03 now! Thank you guys. When 1.03 rolls out, should I use yadiff or Yadiff (2x)? Since yadif throws away one field, yadif (2x) should be the best to use, right? Also, does 1.03 has automatic de-interlacing for DVD-Video? Not that it's a big deal, but it would achieve ful...

Abnormaly high CPU usage when playing DVDs with menus

Ok, here is the problem: If I play a DVD without the menus, CPU usage for VLC is about 12-17%. When I try to play the same DVD, but with the menus on this time, the movie plays fine, but CPU usage is abnormally high, say 25-33%. On some other DVDs, I even got 42% spike. Needless to say, all the audi...

The quick'n'dirty way to see if this is your problem (and fix it if it is) is to uninstall the DVD player driver then reboot. Re: Automatic deinterlacing for interlaced videos, yadiff filter.

Yes, I oversimplified in my previous post, but this is the way things are . The VLC team has devoted hours and hours of work into adding support for non-existent closed source formats like realmedia (what was the last time you saw one without a mov or wmv version nearby?) and the like, yet the inclu...
