Re: When DXVA is enabled, which decoder is used?

How can I be sure that the manufacturer's GPU decoder will be as good as the ffmpeg's decoder? You cannot. You can just hope. So I guess I should wait for 1.2 which will have multicore support. This will be the best, IMO, because the trusted ffmpeg decoder is used, while even a CoreDuo T2400 should...

Re: When DXVA is enabled, which decoder is used?

Here comes the million dollar question: How can I be sure that the manufacturer's GPU decoder will be as good as the ffmpeg's decoder? There are at least 3 different GPU decoder implementations out there (Intel, ATI, NVIDIA) and there is no guarantee all of them will be as good as ffmpeg, since ffmp...

Re: VLC 1.1.0 pre3 build

It plays BDMV folders
That's good. If the m2ts file is segmented (like vob files in dvds are), I won't have to interrupt to load the next file. How do I activate this access module?

Re: VLC 1.1.0 pre3 build

Unfortunately, we are still a bit far from it...
But most blu-ray files should play.
Since bluray was mentioned, what happened to the bluray access module that was present in 1.0.x? Is it still present in 1.1.0 and what does it do?

Re: VLC 1.1.0 pre3 build

Nice ... full blu-ray support :D (and errorless)
Am I dreaming or you just said that VLC 1.1.0 pre3 has full bluray support? (even without support for menus or copy protected blurays).

If this is real life (aka i am not dreaming right now), it would be just awesome.

Re: When DXVA is enabled, which decoder is used?

Decoder source code is from FFMPEG, but it uses DXVA API to do the decoding steps.
So, the decoding is done by ffmpeg code, but it uses the GPU instead of the CPU?

I was under the impression that DXVA was a decoder embedded to the video card, and the player's decoder wasn't used at all.

When DXVA is enabled, which decoder is used?

Hi there,

When I play a video with VLC 1.1.0 pre2, and DXVA is enabled, which decoder is used? Is it the excellent decoder from ffmpeg VLC has, or some no-name decoder from ATI/NVIDIA nobody has tested in terms of quality?

Thanks,

Too good to be true: Bluray edition

I found this on a forum.

Bluray Player 1.0

It claims to be a full featured bluray player, with support for "almost all Bluray audio/video formats". How can this be true? Where did they got the BD-J specs from?

Re: Full support for DVD-Audio (including decryption of CPPM

Simple: noone had the time to do it. Laurent had time for .aob extension (was not that difficult) but didn't had time for DVD-Audio. Patches are VERY welcome on this, and we can pay a student through Google Summer of Code for that. But don't expect anything from the core team. Glad to hear this. At...

Full support for DVD-Audio (including decryption of CPPM)

Hi there. First of all, I want to say I am glad to see VLC 1.1 making steady progress. You guys are full of nice surprises. Also, it's was nice to see that it will play .AOB files. Support for DVD-Audio was the last step to achieve full compatibility with DVD media, thus making software like WinDVD ...

Re: How to get better performance when playing HD H.264

Any of you guys still having hopes that ffmpeg-mt will be on time for VLC 1.1? I still do. Anyway, here is a question: if I use DXVA, will it use VLC's decoders, or something else? I want to use VLC's decoders, not some other decoder provided by the graphics card vendor. I recently read somewhere th...

Re: How to get better performance when playing HD H.264

You have to patch both. Are there any instructions on how to accomplish this? From j-b's sayings, I suppose you can't just click on a checkbox or add a flag to the compiler and magically make VLC compile with ffmpeg-mt instead of ffmpeg. You may need to do some actual programing to make VLC and ffm...

Re: How to get better performance when playing HD H.264

Could anyone tell me how to enable ffmpeg-multithread-decoding in VLC? Is it enough to build vlc against ffmpeg-mt or do I have to hack something (if so, what?) I'd love to test this to keep track of ffmpeg-mt's progress. thanks! Agreed, a handy guide on how to compile VLC with ffmpeg-mt would be n...

I am not from the Videolan group, but I am pretty sure VLC doesn't have any DVD ripping features whatsoever. Sure, you can record the movie while playing, but this is not ripping. Re: How to get better performance when playing HD H.264

ffmpeg-mt regression compared to ffmpeg.
One moe question: Which of the one is true: a) that the regression also appears in other players, like Mplayer? or b) the regression appears only in VLC? If it's the first, then kudos for the videolan team for keeping it safe.

Re: How to get better performance when playing HD H.264

Patches for VLC and FFmpeg-mt already exist, but it is NOT bug-free. It has many timestamps problem.
And the timestamps problem is an ffmpeg-mt bug (aka ffmpeg-mt's problem) or a VLC-specific problem?

If it is VLC's problem, why isn't there a bug for that defect in trac?

Re: How to get better performance when playing HD H.264

It looks like it basically boils down to waiting for the relevant ffmpeg release (current version is 0.5 released on 2009-03-10). However their plans for the next version says nothing about what happens to ffmpeg-mt or multithread... http://ffmpeg.org/changelog.html And then we would need a new VLC...

Re: "Copy Protection" feature in VLC player

But under the VLC’s GPL, we need to publish the whole source codes, including the "copy protection/content security" mechanism part, right? If you want to be 100% legit with everything you do, yes, you must publish the source code. But believe me, nobody is going to pursue litigation agai...
