i really don't understand why the open source community is having such a problem getting a BD capable player out. what's the hangup?

i'm getting this error when trying to play a dvd/br:

Your input can't be opened:
VLC is unable to open the MRL 'dvd://J:'. Check the log for details.

is there a particular file i have to locate first?
