Unable to use VAAPI

My system: - Ubuntu 10.10 (32-bit) - AMD 785 mobo w HD4200 video - ATI Catalyst 10.12 driver - libva1, libva-dev, libva1-dbg, and xvba-video (v.0.7.6) from splitted-desktop (I had to overwrite the 'official' copy of libva1 else xvba-video wouldn't work, at all) When I run 'vainfo' I get the followin...

Re: VLC 1.1.0-pre1 build

I have both but vainfo reports, "Trying to open /usr/lib/va/drivers/nvidia_drv_video.so" and then fails.

Re: vdpau & vlc

I thought that 'libva' was a VAAPI interface with a VDPAU backend? I installed both 'libva' and 'libva1' through the FTP site's AMD64 packages but the 'vainfo' command-line reports, "Trying to open /usr/lib/va/drivers/nvidia_drv_video.so" and then fails. Does libva expect the open-source '...

Re: VLC 1.1.0-pre1 build

thanks, I found it. It's grayed-out so it must not recognize my VDPAU-capable configuration. Is there something I need to add to enable VA API support for Nvidia/VDPAU ?

Re: VLC 1.1.0-pre1 build

Where do you enable/disable Hardware Acceleration? I'm running Ubuntu 10.04 AMD64 and with VLC 1.1-pre from the WebUpd8 PPA. I have an Nvidia 8400GS and the latest proprietary Nvidia drivers, and hw accel works in mplayer (so I know my Linux setup is capable). By default it's not using acceleration.

Re: Disable title-bar showing Current Song ?

I'm not referring to the video filename being displayed on-screen. I'm referring to the audio filename being displayed in the VLC window title-bar.

Play movies directly from .RARs

I would like to be able to play a file (e.g. movie) from within a set of RARs, i.e., without having to extract the file first. This is a feature in XBMC so I know it's possible.

Thank you!

Disable title-bar showing Current Song ?

Is there a setting to disable the feature wherein VLC automatically displays the current song-name in the program's title-bar? This might not even fix my problem but I was hoping there was an easy way to try it. (I'm using Ubuntu 9.10 with the Docky app-launcher and Docky always create an additional...

Re: When wil vdpau be included in regular version?

Thanks! I hadn't actually heard of VA API before but now I see that it's a superset(?) of VDPAU.

So does this mean I should already be able to get hardware acceleration of h.264 video if my video card/driver support VDPAU? Is VA API included with the current 1.03 stable release?

When will VDPAU be included in regular version?

I've seen all the instructions on manually reconfiguring VLC and FFmpeg etc to support hardware acceleration of h.264 on Nvidia cards, but when will this supported by the normal version? The instructions all seem to indicate that you need to tweak the 1.1 'Git' version so does that mean a final rele...

Re: Whats the easiesy way to install VLC Player in Ubuntu?

VLC is available through one of the default Repositories in Ubuntu but it's an older version. Instead you could also follow the instructions on the main Videolan download page and add the recommend 'PPA' (online software library) to your computer's Repository list. The updated version of VLC will th...

Re: MP3 streams don't update the song title

Great news, thanks! Hasn't 0.9.x been out for at least 2 years? Didn't mean to make it sound like a criticism.

MP3 streams don't update the song title

When I play an online radio-station with an MP3 stream, VLC will display the Artist/Title of the initial song but then it never updates. This has been an issue for years on VLC for Ubuntu/Linux. Is this a known bug and will it be fixed before v1.0 is final?

Thank you for any information!
