I have the same exact problem with MKV's and AVI's that have DD5.1 and DTS audio. I run SPDIF out of an XFI to my receiver. Without fail every time I watch a movie, at about 40-50min into it, first the audio gets unsynched with the video, and then soon after the sound starts to chop, where it will g...

Yes, 1080p are usually too difficult to decode with VLC.. This is not true at all. I've been using VLC since .86b to run 1080p MKV's back when I had my Core 2 duo E6600 with 2gb and an 8800gts.
