Yes you have the Fedora packages. But since you are running Red Hat 8.0 that doesnt do much for you. You need to insall RPM's that have the files that were listed as missing. libpth.so.20 is needed by videolan-client-0.8.1-1.0.rh7.rf libFLAC.so.4 is needed by videolan-client-0.8.1-1.0.rh7.rf libdvbp...

Welcome to RPM hell. Ok so you have missing dependent libraries. You have two options: 1. You can uninstall all of those RPM's and start over. If you go this route you will probably want to use the Red Hat packages instead of the Fedora Core set. You will probably still get some missing dependant pa...

doubt this will work

This is a long shot but you want to make sure that DMA is enabled for the DVD drive. I stopped using Windows after Win2k so I am not sure were you set this now. Since it is windows XP it probably it is enabled. If it is a generic drive it is possible the driver for it did not support DMA, or did not...

Read the instructions

Read the documentation.

Also, posting with vague subject lines ensures you will not get many responses to your questions. It is considered poor list edict. Your subject line should include a brief spice description of your question.

Problem with the Browser not the plugin

The issue that is described is more likely a function of the browser not the plug-in. The description given is vague so I dont have much advice. I am not sure why you would want to over lay and block the video. If you dont want them to see it why stream it to them. Focusing on changing the plug in s...

Hardware?

Do you have other DVD playing software that works with this set up? Usually this problem is caused by DMA not being enabled. I do not see how this set up could utilize DMA though.

Conclusion

I never was able to resolve this. I has concluded that it was an issue with my box. To verify this I install DVD support for Xine, and it does the same thing, although to a much milder degree. I assume this is related to my Video driver. There is not actually a Linux video driver for my card(ATI 700...

Lazy install solution

I took the lazy route, and installed the Redhat RPM's. The details are listed at

viewtopic.php?t=1092

The only down side to this is that you can NOT change skins because of the way the RPM's are configured

I noticed there were a lot of postings asking how to install VLC on Suse. It took me about 4 days to work out all of the details. I have posted the steps I went though to save the next guy some time. This will probably not work for everyone, and I am sure that there are better ways to do it. The onl...

Not a problem. That just means that the RPM did NOT have a digital signature. Since you presumably downloaded it from videolan.org the source of the file is reasonably reliable.
