1) Adjusting settings, whether in VLC or any desktop software is unlikely to 'screw up your computer'...

2) Fear to experiment is the single biggest obstacle that stops people from really learning how to use a computer and is sad.

3) But if settings aren't your cup of tea, then stay away from VLC

You can't

You can't stream DVD menus. If only you could... it would be awesome.

I have similar problem

I have a possibly related CPU issue; If I start vlc in VLM mode from my VB.NET application using Me.VOD_ProcessID = Shell("c:\progra~1\videolan\vlc\vlc --intf telnet", AppWinStyle.Hide, False, 0) ,then do nothing else but exit the application without playing any files, the vlc process will...

Sorry for what is possibly a very noobish question, but:

When streaming a DVD to a client, can you stream 5.1 sound?

Many thanks

XP: Problem using RC interface remotely

Hi, Just wanted to feedback another quirk I found while testing the rc interface on XPSP2, VLC 0.8.2 If I start VLC using: 'vlc.exe --intf rc --rc-host 127.0.0.1:1234' it will spawn a new dosbox where vlc is running. If I then make a telnet connection to this, I can't send or receive anything via th...

fastforward / rewind via RC problem?

Hi,

I'm testing the rc interface on XPSP2 / VLC 0.8.2.

The commands fastforward / rewind seem to be switched when connected remotely using telnet.
Has anyone experienced this?

Also, once I'm fastfowarding/rewinding, how do I resume to normal playback speed?

Thanks,
David

Redirect standard in?

Hi, Let me redo my original post from a different angle: On XP Home: Can I run "vlc.exe --intf rc" in a dos box, and redirect the standardIn of this dos box from within my vb.net application? If so, I could then use StreamWriter to write commands to vlc..... Can this be done? I'm trying it...

Drive RC interface via code?

Hi, I have a .NET application from which I would like to play and control video using VLC. Could anyone give me a clue as to how I would best do this? I would like to be able to launch the player from my app with the RC interface, and then send commands to this interface from the same code. How best...

thx

Many thanks, that link helps. Yes I'm interested in the vod aspects of vlm, so am looking at using telnet. Regarding the rc interface, how do I connect to this in an XP/windows environment? Also, this might be another stupid question, but: I'm looking to control the server side VLC instance from rem...

dvdnav: hotkey to return to menu?

Hi, using dvdnav:<DVD PATH>, the DVD starts on menu, I can navigate and start a movie playing.... how do I return to the menu using the keyboard?

Sorry if this is a really noob question, but I've checked the Hotkeys under preferences and didn't find a likely suspect.

Many thanks!

Telnet interface Q

Hi, I started vlc playing with a TElnet interface using the command line: Shell("c:\progra~1\videolan\vlc\vlc --intf telnet --telnet-port 1111 --fullscreen --spdif dvdsimple:c:\24") I then logged into the telnet interface using Windows hyperterminal. I type 'help' for a list of commands I ...
