Finally bought the card, ended up with a Terratec Cinergy 1200 DVB-C.
Works fine, even though installing the firmware on Debian wasn't that straightforward..
Could provide additional info is somebody is interested to try his luck with the same combination..

seems intersting (although i don't really get the difference between what you call grid computing having 2 videos transcoded per computer and just having 2 videos transcoded per computer without calling it grid) Well, in the case you would like to call the system a Grid, you would practically just ...

Why would anyone want to use grid computing to do live streaming ? isn't one server enough ? First question: That's what I'm trying to find out  Grid computing ain't just about computational power anyway.. Storage, Virtual Organizations, watermarking, encryption etc. They all fit under the va...

Is the CERN going to use VLC ? That would be neat :) Well, not exactly.. Trying to rig up realtime streaming of DVB from Finland, mostly for entertainment purposes. 8) In the side I'm doing a feasibility study of several Grid technologies for this purpose, but they don't seem to be that suitable fo...

Stream all elementary streams with VLM?

HI,

How do I specify the "sout-all" parameter using the VLM?
I want ALL the elementary streams from a file, not just the first ( as the default.. ).

Does the Debian binaries include FAAC?

I'm having problems encoding audio into mp4a. VLC doesn't find the AAC encoder, even though I've installed it separately.
Is there anyway to tell VLC where to look for FAAC?
Don't VLC binaries include FAAC in the first case?

"vlc -l | grep faac" returns nothing..

missing faac libraries - howto install them?

I'm trying to transcode audio from mpeg2 into mp4a on a Debian platform, and keep getting error messages about missing AAC encoder. So, as far as I know I'm missing the faac-libraries. And running "vlc -l|grep faac" returns nothing.. But, I've reinstalled faac with apt-get several times wi...

Thanks for the reply. I have to apologize, I should have stated my needs a more accurately.. What I need is a TV-card that works in DVB-T or DVB-C networks. These seem to be quite rare at the moment ( at least in Finland ). And the few that are on the market seem be loaded with bugs according to rev...

Good suggestions for a TV card?

I'm about to buy a TV card for a Debian system, and I'm wondering if anyone has to share any good/bad experiences using VLC with particular cards?

Error message while trying to stream mpeg4, otherwise fine..

I've encountered a wierd error while trying to stream a mpeg4 file on a Debian platform. It works fine with normal mpeg2 files. Even the mpeg4 streaming works fine on WinXP platform with exactly the same parameters.. Could it be some codec error, or what? Where could I find a listing of these error ...
