Re: stdin on OSX?

If I dig around long enough I might be able to grok enough to see if it's disabled or something I suppose ... but that's about it. Never enough hours in the day!

Was hoping one of the OSX devs knew the answer to this one already :(

Re: stdin on OSX?

One app I'd like to do this with is a modified version of clover (which is a python wrapped version of the firewire grab examples apple provides in their firewire SDK). I've also got another variation based on apple examples I've been working on that just grabs raw dv streams from firewire. clover: ...

Re: stdin on OSX?

I have no idea whether this is possible, but what are you trying to achieve? I'm trying to pipe in video that I'm capturing with another command line app (from set top box via firewire) and transcode in realtime to x264 or mp4v and then either have it streamed via udp or saved to a local file. Usin...

Re: stdin on OSX?

bump! No body has an answer to this question? I also asked it about 3 years ago and got no answer then ...

The use of stdin is an incredibly useful thing for me and am hoping that I'm just missing something and that it indeed works on OSX.

Re: Bug: 1.0.0 - bogus audio device error

Actually I've narrowed it down, it seems to only come up when I play a video with a52 or dts audio tracks.

Bug: 1.0.0 - bogus audio device error

I get an error message with all the files I've tried so far (mp4, m4v, mkv) Audio device is not configured. You should configure your speaker layout with the "Audio Midi Setup" utility in /Applications/Utilities. Stereo mode is being used now. (actually now gets cut off until you resize th...

Re: New features missing in VLC 1.0.0 on OS X?

another thing missing is the ability to go normal size in full screen This feature was never present in VLC and is not announced to be included. Patches are welcome of course, although I don't see a reason why anyway would want to use that... (no offense intended) It can be useful when you are doin...

stdin on OSX?

I can't seem to be able to figure out how to get VLC on OSX to use stdin from CLI ... I've tried using all three of: - and /dev/stdin and stream:///dev/stdin

Any suggestions? Is this possible?

Ok guess I just needed the one in share/http (not sure if the web interface stuff requires lua) but I got it working fine.

Re: Web interface in 1.0.0 forbids external access?

edit .hosts file.
Hmm I don't follow. Where is the .hosts file to edit?

Ok I found them ... do I need to edit all 3 of them?

Code: Select all

VLC.app/Contents/MacOS/share/http/.hosts VLC.app/Contents/MacOS/share/lua/http/.hosts VLC.app/Contents/MacOS/share/lua/http/dialogs/.hosts

haha yes. That wasn't the question, it was more a question of whether or not VLC could handle it. The short answer is yes it could and did, sorta -- (this post is 1.5 years old). The machines just werent' capable of dealing with a 30Mb/s video stream so we ended up going with a hardware based soluti...

This wasn't limited to just VLC either. I saw this same behaviour with a Flash upgrade as well (turning the sampling rate to 96k), so I suspect they might have had something in common (a legacy call perhaps?)

Also have you added/modified any fonts lately? Sounds an awful lot like a font conflict to me. You can check for conflicts by opening Font Book ... if any of the fonts in the lists have little black dots beside them they are having conflicts. (you can sort of resolve this by selecting this option in...

I guess you mean it doesn't support apple's built in digital outputs? I use VLC through my MOTU 2408mkIII all the time running 100% digital with no problems ... Another thing I've noticed as well, is that VLC can even request the hardware to change sampling rate from 44.1k to 48k ;) While at times t...

You can find the CLI version inside the Contents of the .app pkg ...

in VLC.app/Contents/MacOS/VLC

Why it's all caps I'm not sure, but you can run that directly and pass any arguments needed to it there.
