Is it possible to configure the latest VLC to operate in the same HTTP remote control mode as version 0.7.1 ?

How is that done ?

In 0.7.1 it was done by specifying the command line:
C:\Program\VideoLAN\VLC\vlc.exe --intf wxwin --extraintf=http

How is the same mode accomplished in say vlc-0.8.2 ?

There are two modes to consider, (1) streaming from PC to Dreambox (you can then view just about any format that VLC can convert to MPEG1 or MPEG2).
