Open the youtube.lua file with a text editor and replace "swfArgs" with "SWF_ARGS" and it will work again.

You can make Xvid files with Avidemux. Choose the MPEG-4 ASP (Xvid4) video encoding option.

You can easily save YouTube videos with the Firefox Video Downloadhelper extension.

Try Avidemux. Similar to Virtualdub and can handle mp4 and flv formats.
