instead of hiding the taskbar you could simply right click the preference window's title bar and click "move".
then drag the window up from it's center instead of the titlebar, that'd make your life easier

tools --> preference --> subtitles&OSD --> deselect "enable OSD"

guess that fixes it, although usually VLC keeps the title displayed only for a couple of seconds
You're sure you didn't hard encode this title into your video?

I never had the need to play with the impressive amount of command line switches for VLC before

So adding --vout-filter=wall --wall-cols=2 --wall-rows=1 after the shortcut does exactly what I needed
