i was just wondering how to get them to work? which codecs do i need and stuff... Just open them in VLC. They should work by default. Alternatively you can install ffdshow and the latest MPC (it has an mp4 parser now), and they will work. Or you can install Haali's media splitter, and with ffdshow ...

VLC does not yet have a decoder for amr audio. It's on the list of things to do, however, so just have some patience and it'll be added sooner or later

It never used to give me blue screens before. It happens only with MPEG-4 video files. So far I've only tried them in mp4 and avi. In both containers, I get blue screens. no, i meant the positioning of the subs stored in .mp4 (yeah when creating a timed text stream in mp4 you can define where it should be displayed)

does vlc take things like subtitle positioning into account?

Yes:

settings>preferences>input/codecs>other codecs>subtitles>subtitles justification> change position to your preferable position.

Yes, it was created with MP4Box. File Brand is ISOM without BIFS/OD Track.

Osmo4 can play it. So can QuickTime (must be renamed to 3gp while running in QuickTime).
