can vlc can convert .flv files to anything?

i am having the exact same problem. in fact, i searched the forum first but using "convert" as my search criteria. "transcode" doesnt appear in vlc anymore (the word, that is) it is not obvious how it is supposed to work. i managed to convert a different file format before, but n...

can VLC convert .flv to another format? if so, how?

so far, i have been unable to do this.

It seems to me like there is a direct jump from "ignorant" to "know-all" where this is concerned. I admit my own ignorance in this topic. I am sure its very hard work for the developers, who probably created VLC as a labor of love. It would be good to learn more about this topic....
