I have a quick patch for backward stepping. It is very very very very ugly and will not be merged. But if needed contact me (if you are a programmer, of course).

With the lack of backwards frame stepping this tool will give you the same accuracy by scrubbing. With shorter movies, I'm using 1 second in my example, the timeline is so widely spread that you can easily scrub on a frame-to-frame basis, backwards and forwards. For video production on Mac this is a de-facto standard. A lot of clients sends in this format but on linux there is no way to play back those files. I would like to see the addition of frames to the time counter; hh:mm:ff.

Also I would like a mode of just frames, ffffff, no seconds or minutes, where 2sec.12fr would be expressed as 000062 rather than 00:02:12.

I'm testing out a few encoders for creating Quicktime compatible H264 mov's and so far VLC does a good job. There is however one big issue. The resulting mov is very slow to navigate.
