You don't need cygwin for cross compile the wince toolchain from vlc works fine under linux. VMWare is to the rescue if you don't need to remove Windows. I've done it succsefully with a minimal Slackware setup.

Nik did you ever manage to compile the ffmpeg library for wince? The only library i was managed to compile is the libmpeg2, but it is not of use for vlc

Try an old version, latest build don't work at all even if they succsefully build with the cross tools. I would recommend for pocketpc to use the TCPMP, core pocket media player or something like that. (check http://tcpmp.corecodec.org/about)

Hi all, I was able with the new guidelines to compile it but when comming to ld i get an error cannot find -lws2 ? Does anyone know the reason? By the way I'm testing it with Slackware 10.1 and I didn't had to follow points 1,2,3 mentioned by nik above so I'm just using the guidelines at readme.winc...
