It seems like VLC would be a natural for this application. Unfortunately I haven't programmed in c since the 70's and don't plan to start soon as I am now officially an old f**t. Regarding the hardware, you could use a second mac or pc with an m2t file on it, and feed it to the first mac to debug th...

Is VLC client over firewire doable?

Does anyone know if you can configure VLC as a client on a Mac to receive and decode mpeg2 streams coming in over firewire from HD sources for example such as an HD OTA receiver? This would be very usefurl for a number of applications. Especially if you could use is as a server as well to stream the...

DUH!!!   :!: :!: Yea, DUH, except that the G4 is a 64 bit processor and should work correctly. Having to go to a 3GHZ windows box is painful at best. Question is how fast does the G4 have to be? I am confident that 3GHz is not the answer, and confident that the decoders in VLC co...

HDTV .m2t file jerky on MAC but not PC

I recently installed the AVX1 and am able to generate 1920x1080i full bitrate HDTV .m2t streams from my HD300. Using VLC to play back from my MAC 933 MHz MAC is jerky with this stream. Yet when I play back using my 3GHz Pentium, all is well. Any comments related towards the enabling of my current ma...

Digital dolby light out

I just returned from a trip, and have been unable to try this until now. So I downloaded the most recent build - dated June 23 - and noticed that I now obtain output from the Sonica (5.1) on both PCM and a/52. The program bombs (repeatable bug) when going from a/52 to PCM. I have also noticed that t...

Same as before, PCM ok if launched in PCM.

Switch to 5.1 causes the 'screaming noise', and unable to go back to PCM without relaunch.

But thanks for still thinking about us!

Re: Apple DVD player now works with sonica in 5.1 mode!

I'm running 10.3.3 with the Transit USB and using those settings it almost works...it is really choppy but it's outputing ac3. M-Audio only supports up to 10.3.2, so I can only assume that the update screwed things up. sb Acutally DVD Player outputs DD5.1 quite well within 10.3.3 using a Sonica (wh...

It doesn't matter anymore. Apple DVD player works with Sonica now, and you don't need to use VLC to obtain dd5.1 for standard 480p DVDs if you use a Mac.

Now if you are trying to play HD material, this may be one of only a few players.

So why the frown?

I apologize for asking the question. As a user of strictly MacIntosh, I have tried to distance myself from microsoft as much as possible, and thus do not come across this issue very often except when trying to open MS generated documents. I make an effort to remain transparent, using software that m...

Apple DVD player now works with sonica in 5.1 mode!

While examining the Sonica web site I noticed that it now says: OS 10.3 required for Dolby Digital and DTS pass-through using Apple DVD Player To my surprise, there is actually a setting in the prefs to allow digital dolby pass through in the Apple DVD player, and totally to my surprise it works (on...

Perhaps there is another device, other than the Sonica, that might work with VLC and dd5.1. Any unknown newly released modules that you are aware of? We poor old Mac users, all of us, cannot obtain dd5.1 unless we go to a G5 (I think, but do not own one.) This dilema was solved beautifully with your...

WMV3

I am receiving an increasing number of WMV3 files form PC friends. VLC gives me the following message:

main: no suitable decoder module for fourcc `WMV3'.
VLC probably does not support this sound or video format.

Is this supposed to be?
Thanks,

DJ,
If VLC 4.3 works, why can't you just incorporate that into V7.0?

Hi DJ, I downloaded the Sonica update. I am running OSX10.3.2 on a G4 PowerMac 933 MHz. I ran the M-Audio Sonica 1.0.3f1 update. I am also running VLC 0.7.0, the official release. Results: Still get core audio error. (coreaudio: failed to set buffer size: [nope]) VLC does not play through the Sonica...

I really wish you could obtain that informa†ion from apple. Your test2 works so much better and it would be great to get the audio working as well. Could you describe in some additional detail what you need? I know some people at apple and will try to also ask.

I am currently using the M-Audio VLC Edition (v0.4.3) for my dvds. and it plays 5.1 sound perfectly but it is a pretty antique app when it comes to the VLC features nowadays.
I am unable to get VLC 0.4.3 to work with OSX10.3.1. Are you sure?

I get the same message on my M-audio Sonica. I emailed M-audio and they indicated that it is unknown if they are coming out with an upgrade for Panther.
