are the older versions known to work better with xvid?

no ideas? at least any one know any other programs i might try for xvid

I'm running 0.9.6 and it seems to hang a lot, especially on longer files. On all files it will clip a bit every couple minutes, but on longer files the frame just freezes and then the video eventually catches up while the audio plays through. I have a macbook pro 2.5 ghz with 4 gigs ram + leopard 10...
