Thanks! It was really Malwarebytes Anti-Exploit after I uninstalled it VLC (64 bit) works again.

I have the same issue. Windows 8.1 Update 1 (manually updated yesterday) and VLC 2.1.3 64bit. VLC Player does not open anymore.

In VLC when right clicking the application icon in the taskbar I still see some old entries. Or is that related to Windows?

Also I would like if the Media -> Recent media option would be disabled by default.

I noticed recently, that although I have set VLC player not to save the recently played items they still appear in the list. Not all videos, but some. This is probably a bug somewhere. Has anyone else noticed this? I'm using VLC 1.1.5 and Windows 7 32bit.

I have exactly the same issue in Windows 7 but with Nvidia drivers
