I've been using VLC for nearly two decades, but I've never noticed this feature.
When pressing CTRL+N in VLC (Open Network Stream), it actually hints you about this.
Just too bad I've never taken notice of it.

Now, it's been some time. Here I get into conversation, just trying out the VP7 codec for the first time. MPC etc resolves the issue by hooking the (installed) On2 VP7 codec (VFW), thus playback works fine. However, VLC does not. I've read this thread so I do understand the issue with licenses etc. ...
