Re: 2.1.2 forces audio file association, can't undo

Maybe if YOU tested, bugs would be fixed... well politely and with all due respect, Mr head programmer sir, the way I was trained to produce software was: 1. code, 2. test, 3. release to end users Not 1. code, 2 release, 3 test. maybe it's taught differently in France :) :) :) ready...fire...aim....

Re: 2.1.2 forces audio file association, can't undo

this is EXACTLY why I did not want to risk an upgrade from 2.0.7 after your advice to do so in my other thread ( the one about keeping previous preferences; also = the one where you told me to " go away" after I complained that web site was hard to navigate. I also have 64 bit win 7 - prob...

Re: update and keep ALL preferences

It's not impossible. ..... well here I am on the home page videolan.org I see links to" download" & to "features," but NO LINK to what's new or what's changed or to version history. no such links on the download page either. so if this info does exist, where have you hidden ...

Re: update and keep ALL preferences

Use 2.1.2 and later.

why - what has changed ?

- & why is it impossible to find a list of "what 's changed" on the downloads page ?

Re: switching between 5.1 and 2.0 audio configurations

for now - still testing audio device switching with 2.0.7 I have connected & configured my 5.1 usb headphones in windows.A control panel speakers test gives me 6 x workign speakers. I now want to observe & listen to see what vlc is doing- so rather than searching soundtracks for good example...

Re: audio settings puzzle - device settings

Then, please share the logs. Try with 2.1.0-pre1 too. I did more checking... the limitation is with Sony bravia TV - or Windows! control panel - sounds... says that SONY TV is a 2 channel stereo device - no other options, even though it's on a HDMI connection. it actually lists 3 x NVidia HDMI, opt...

Re: audio settings puzzle - device settings

not always :)

Without S/PDIF, you should use your "HDMI Audio device" normally with VLC. and the data will be PCM.
OK - thaks for clarifying I think, but I will check ( as we're talkgin abotu a different PC ) that 6 channel avi is being turned into stereo though

Re: switching between 5.1 and 2.0 audio configurations

Well, testing will help us :)
OK - are the specifics you want tested or is it just "use it & see if it crashes" sort of testing

I am not really a power user, all I do is watch movies/ tv series with it

Re: audio settings puzzle - device settings

Turn off S/PDIF pass-through.
i did that a while back after previous advice in the thread.

so am I making this too complicated - are you saying that "use PCM" simply equates to " do not use S/PDIF " ?

Re: switching between 5.1 and 2.0 audio configurations

You should try VLC 2.1.0-pre1 http://people.videolan.org/~jb/vlc-2.1.0-pre1-win32.exe? with the waveout output.
thanks , but if that is a beta, with a full release coming soon, I am happy to wait for the full release.
i will read the relevant documentation though, if there is any

Re: audio settings puzzle - device settings

for HDMI, if you use PCM and the normal HDMI audio driver, it should work. confused now - I thought PCM was for 2 channel only ? also: can't see where to select PCM - on the audio tab I only see output module, device, & dolby surround options ? looking at media files that I have : a typical .AV...

Re: audio settings puzzle - device settings

well let's not quibble about a label:) back to the multi channel issue - should I be able have VLC regard the Sony TV as a multi channel audio device and send all 6 avi channels to the TV for downmixing there ( via the HDMI cable/ Ndidia audio driver ? switching between 5.1 and 2.0 audio configurations

i have 2 channel speaker set up but am considering a set of 5.1 surround sound headphones ( USB driven) for use with .avi files that have 6 channel sound ( according to preferences- details) will I have to manually tweak VLC preference every time I switch from one to the other, in order to get the c...

Re: audio settings puzzle - device settings

Resampling coded audio is impossible. Your HDMI or DP monitor probably supports pass-through even if it is not physically using S/PDIF. ok - I see this also on other thread s after a forum search. but please confirm. if it s OK to use an S/PDIF connection - like an optical or co-ax cable , from a P...

Re: audio settings puzzle - device settings

UPDATE - it IS the enabling of "use S/PDIF if available" that causes the speeded up audio to vanish. its not toggling between primary sound /Sony TV audio device but WHY ? Are there limitations for anyone who DOES elect to use S/PDIF as therir audio connection ? PS there is no S/PDIF outpu...

Re: audio settings puzzle - device settings

I am pretty sure that it is not the SP/DIF passthrough toggle , because I tried that both way around. but I will re-test on that PC ( it si not the one I am typing from) in case I missed some combination of device & SP/DIF setting. I am 99% sure that if I just go in and change audio device - but...

audio settings puzzle - device settings

My pc is linked to a Sony Bravia Tv - I was using VGA cable + analogue audio but have switched to HDMI using the Nvidia sound card. video playback, on default settings, is still fine, specifically I can use the fine speed controls to speed up video playback by 10, 20 % etc with no loss of audio. the...

It should be there if you have used the installer. well I must have used the installer - how else could the program be installed ???
