Update check is threaded. So it won't slowdown startup. Only thing that comes to my mind is that your %appdata%\vlc folder is wiped during restart, and VLC has to generate cache again. that would only happen if I had some clean up app - like ccleaner - running at startup or at shutdown, yes? Those files usually don't contain copyrighted material. So they aren't illegal in that sense.

PS - if previous poster is that desparate to watch his infected + stolen "movie" - then burn it to CD or DVd, put DVd into stand-alone DVD player... then go away.

v.1.1.1 has introduced yet another bug - when I adjust volume in full screen more - using miltimedia keyboard or remote - the volume changes but the VLC vertical on-screen volcume indicator no longer appears.
