Buy a usb video capture device. Most come with easy to use software and they don't cost much money. However, as far as the quality of the video, you often get what you pay for.

I would definitely upgrade to a 0.9x version. The syntax is different after 0.9.0. If you haven't already, you might want to read this page. http://wiki.videolan.org/Documentation:Modules/logo Transparent png files most certainly work in the latest versions. I don't if there were issues in 0.8.6.

The video filter dynamicoverlay function SetTextColor does not appear to set the colors properly.
