I fixed some problems with recognizing my Sata controller by exchanging a kext.
By this the resolution of my desktop was corrected (don't ask why the resolution
depends on the SATA controller) and also my problem with vlc has been resolved.
So now everything works as expected.

ok, but then the message telling me that there is no OpenGL accelearation available
should be corrected, because at the end it says: but it will work anyway.

Mobo is a Gigabyte GA-H67A-UD3H-B3 with HD3000 onboard graphic
running Mountain Lion.

starting vlc shows the playlist, opening a movie shows the movie in the playlist,
a small window appears telling me that there is no OpenGL acceleration, I can
hear the sound and thats it.

Fresh install of Mountain Lion and vlc-2.0.5.
Audio is ok but there is no video. I found
some postings in this forum describing the
same problem, but any solution mentioned in
those postings did'nt help me.
So is there any new insight in this problem ?

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ferramroberto/vlc sudo apt-get update

Then go to update manager and it should offer you the latest vlc.

As per https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/vlc/+bug/743323/comments/73 it is clear that VLC 1.1.10 will never make it to Ubuntu 11.04. Thus you'll need to get it from a PPA or compile it yourself or upgrade to Ubuntu 11.10. so vlc does not support the current ubuntu version for critical secur...

well the subject says all: how do I upgrade to vlc-1.1.10 on ubuntu-11.04 ?
whatever I tried, I always ended up with vlc-1.1.9.

here is my /etc/apt/sources.list (without comments).
I never changed anything and I don't know what a PPA is.

I tried to enable logging in the preferences: Advanced -> Logging
Whatever filename and verbosity I specified, there is no logfile.
Did I miss something ?
